Easy Cabled Knits

The Knitter - - The Knitter Loves - by Martin Storey

Martin Storey’s latest pattern book is aimed at knitters new to cables, but its 10 beautifully traditional designs with a modern twist are sure to appeal to experienced knitters, too!

Martin has designed 10 easygoing garments and accessories, all with a soft, rustic look thanks to the use of Rowan’s Hemp Tweed yarn. The ‘Cable Edge Jacket’ is typical of this relaxed feel; it has an open-fronted shape, short sleeves and pockets, with smart cable details. It is sized to fit busts of up to 50in, as is the ‘Links Cable Cardigan’, a V-neck design.

The book includes a more fitted cardigan with a garter stitch yoke and cabled bands, and the ‘Chain Cable Slipover’. Both are to fit busts of 32in to 46in.

Stylish accessories include a long, narrow triangular shawl, edged with a corkscrew cable and finished with tassels; a scarf with a large plaited pattern; a simple cowl; and a pair of moss stitch cable mitts. For the home, there’s a textured ‘Windowpane Cushion’, and a patchwork blanket decorated with trees and trimmed with a rope cable edging. £15.
