Obama gives Biden a shock

The Morning Bulletin - - NEWS WORLD -

WITH a key phase of their careers drawing to a close, President Barack Obama has bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Joe Biden, calling him “the finest vice-president we have ever seen.”

The Vice-President winced in shock yesterday as the President announced he was conferring the country’s highest civil honour on his right-hand man of eight years, surrounded by teary friends and family.

Mr Biden turned from cameras to wipe away tears, then stood as Mr Obama draped the ribbon and medal around his neck.

“I just hope ... that I can say I was part of the journey of a remarkable man who did remarkable things for this country,” Mr Biden said.

“I had no idea,” he said, insisting he didn’t deserve it.
