THERE were 320 cattle sold at Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday, Ian Weir and Son reports.
Once again the yarding consisted mainly of plain conditioned vealers/weaners and a mixed run of cows.
The market in general showed a slight improvement.
Prime milk and grain–assisted vealers sold from 265-294c/kg.
Isabel Lindsay’s santa cross steer sold for 288c/kg, $1088 and John Nilon’s 294c/kg, $985.
The best of the light weaner steers sold to 340-360c/kg but 290-320c/kg was the norm for the heavier lines.
Plain vealers sold from 230-295c/kg with meat operators and restockers competing.
Prices for cows were 5-10c/kg dearer than last week.
Heavy cows sold from 210-234c/kg.
The top cow, a black limousin cross, off Ellangowan, sold for 234c/kg, $1498.
Dairy cows topped at 224c/kg.
FARRELL McCrohon reports that there were 399 cattle yarded at Grafton on Tuesday.
The market for all categories either sold fully firm to dearer.
Bullocks sold to 283c/kg and cows sold firm to dearer.

Vealers saw a significant price rise, with calves to slaughter selling to 300c/kg.
Restockers were strong once again, pushing angus weaners to 384c/kg.

Ramornie Station bullocks sold to 281c/kg weighed 570kg to return $1597/hd.
PL Surawski bullocks sold to 276c/kg weighed 570kg to return $1569/hd.
RC Child bullocks sold to 280c/kg weighed 620kg to return $1712/hd.
Shan Farm bullocks sold to 270c/kg weighed 648kg to return $1743/hd.
AJ Wilson cows sold to 225c/kg weighed 563kg to return $1266/hd.
Cartmill Brothers cows sold to 221c/kg weighed 520kg to return $1145/hd.
RB & JE Barnier angus steers sold to 316c/kg to return $895/hd to restockers.
JD & AM Want simmental weaner steers sold to 344c/kg to return $878/hd to restockers.
Saro Pastoral angus cross weaner steers sold to 378c/kg to return $973/hd to restockers.

MP Davis vealers sold to 278c/kg weighed 320kg to return $832/hd.
RAY DONOVAN noted numbers had plummeted this week, in one of the smallest yardings for quite some time.
All export buyers were in attendance and operated in a fully firm market.
The young cattle did not ease in price, with some sales being a little dearer.
The quality of the yarding was plainer, with most cattle showing signs of winter. Sale highlights included:
