The Northern Star - Northern New South Wales Rural Weekly - - News -

THE Casino Showground will come alive this weekend with all the action of the Casino Show.

Now in its 127th year, the grassroots event will showcase the best of the region, with an array of events such as cattle judging, horse events and demonstrations, poultry exhibitions and a range of art and crafts.

Sideshow alley and market stalls will create a family-friendly, carnival atmosphere.

Casino Show Society president Brendan Disson said a record number of animals were entered in the highly competitive cattle section, and the horse events were popular again this year.

He said the demolition derby would be a highlight of the entertainment, with $1000 up for grabs and entrants from the Kyogle Show eligible to enter and win an extra $500.

The fireworks and performance from the Col Finley Band on Saturday night are also expected to draw the crowds.

The show will kick off with the George and Fuhrmann Heifer Futurity at 5.30pm on Friday, with activities beginning at 7am on Saturday.

Events will include the working dog trials, stud cattle judging, equestrian events, show jumping and heavy horses.

The grand opening of the Casino Show will be at 2pm Saturday and will include the grand parade and announcement of the showgirl winners and runner-up.

Contestants are Brooke Hewett, Kaela McRae, Zoe Griffiths and Sarah Lynn.

This will be followed by the family fun afternoon from 4.30pm, featuring the Young Farmers Challenge, scarecrow competition, kids team events and tug-o-war.
