A DRIVER who refused to give a roadside drug test after being found with a crystal meth pipe will face Lismore Local Court on Tuesday. On Thursday at 8.40pm police allege they saw a car make a sudden turn on Casino St. Police followed the car which then began speeding at 120kmh. As it drove, sparks flew from the undercarriage of the vehicle. On Elliott Rd the vehicle came to a sudden stop. The driver, a 28-year-old Armidale man, provided a negative breath test for alcohol. He then refused to do a roadside drug test. A search of the vehicle resulted in drug paraphernalia (ice pipe) being located. At Lismore police station the man refused to participate in a drug test. He was charged with multiple offences.
A POLICE officer has been injured following a brawl at Tweed Heads on Saturday. It’s alleged about 6pm two men attended a licensed premises on Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads, where they assaulted several patrons and damaged a vehicle. Later in the evening it is alleged the two men became involved in a brawl outside another licensed premises on Wharf St. When police were called, one of the men assaulted an attending female officer. A 23-year-old man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty, two counts of affray and malicious damage. He was refused bail and appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Sunday. He was granted conditional bail and will next appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday, October 3.
