Latte levy backs reusable cups
STARBUCKS in London will charge customers five pence (about nine cents) for ordering their teas and coffee in a paper cup from next month. The move is a bid to get more people to use reusable cups. Starbucks will run the three-month trial in 25 coffee shops in London. The coffee chain said it wanted to see if the additional charge on paper cups would encourage people to use reusable ones. The news came as British MPs called for a 25p tax on “disposable” coffee cups and threatened to ban them altogether if the levy fell flat.
