Bears un­de­feated as Marist Broth­ers up­set Cud­gen

BAL­LINA Bears emerged from the week­end as the only un­de­feated team in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League Twenty20 cricket af­ter Marist Broth­ers up­set Cud­gen.

Bears had wins over Mur­willum­bah and the Casino Cava­liers at Rab­jones Oval, Mur­willum­bah, with Justin Moore (67 and 45) lead­ing the way with the bat.

Joel Perkins took 3-21 against the home team while Ben Carruthers and Tood Jones each picked up three wick­ets against the Cavs.

Paul Jones (55) and Ay­den Jones (3-28) showed some good form for Mur­willum­bah against Bears.

Cud­gen started the day well at Reg Dal­ton Oval, Kingscliff, with a win over Tin­ten­bar-East Bal­lina.

In a high-scor­ing match, Jamie Wil­son smashed 117 not out for Cud­gen and Abe Craw­ford 56 for the ’Bar.

Tin­ten­bar bounced back to beat Marist Broth­ers, with Luke Hamil­ton hit­ting 76 for the ’Bar and Ash­ley Simes 77 for Broth­ers.

The up­set came in the fi­nal game of the af­ter­noon when Simes (74) and Joe Al­lan (72) shared an open­ing part­ner­ship of 145.

An­thony Ker­sh­ler took 5-21 from his four overs but it wasn’t enough as Cud­gen fell more than 50 runs short.

At Seabreeze Oval, Pottsville, the home team had wins over Len­nox Head and Al­stonville.

Tait Burns hit a pair of 40s for Pottsville while Len­nox Head’s Toby Leeds (52) scored the only half cen­tury of the day at the ground.

In the other game, Ai­den Lind­say (46) and Josh Pearce (5-25) led the way in Al­stonville’s win over Len­nox, with Joel Rowan (5-34) the best per­formed of the seasiders.
