‘Machete-waving’ man in custody
A MAN was taken into police custody yesterday afternoon at a busy Gladstone intersection after a woman was injured with a machete at a South Gladstone address.
Police were called to a unit on Toolooa St at 1.19pm after receiving reports a woman had been “stabbed in the hand with a machete”, but the alleged perpetrator had left the scene by the time they arrived.
The woman was transported to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition at 1.40pm.
Police then began to search Gladstone for the man, who they said had turned up to the address “waving a machete” and driving a stolen vehicle.
They soon received reports that the vehicle had been abandoned in the middle of the intersection of the Dawson Hwy and Aerodrome Rd in Clinton.
Police raced to the scene and took the man into custody at 1.54pm.
A police spokesman said as of yesterday evening it remained unclear as to exactly how the woman’s hand had been injured.
The spokesman said investigations into the incident were continuing.
No charges had been laid as of late yesterday afternoon.
