Man held over hitman’s murder
A MAN has been arrested in connection with the murder of underworld hitman Hamad
Assaad, who was gunned down in his Sydney drive. Detectives raided a home in the suburb of Greenacre yesterday, arresting a 24-yearold man. It is understood police will allege the man carried out surveillance on Assaad
(pictured). The suspected trigger man,
29-year-old Kemal Barakat, was killed in his
Mortlake apartment in March. Assaad was standing in his driveway when he was shot multiple times in front of his 12-year-old nephew. Assaad was under police surveillance and his murder was captured on video. As the gunmen escaped, police rushed to save the 29-year-old but he died at the scene. Assaad was a prime suspect in several unsolved shootings, including the murder of underworld figure Walid Ahmad.
