Hillsborough cops to be charged

The Observer - - NEWS WORLD -

EX-POLICE chief David Duckenfield and five others will be prosecuted over the 1989 Hillsborough disaster following a tireless campaign for justice by the families of 96 Liverpool fans killed at an FA Cup semi-final. The initial verdict of accidental death was overturned when a second inquest ruled unlawful killing. Mr Duckenfield, 72, in charge on the day of the tragedy, will be charged with manslaughter. Ex-chief constable Sir Norman Bettison (pictured), 61, faces four counts of misconduct in public office. The investigation has run for four years and cost $170 million.
