Barba ap­peal turned down

BEN Barba will not play for St He­lens un­til Au­gust af­ter fail­ing to have his 12-match ban over­turned.

The 2014 Su­per League cham­pi­ons took ad­van­tage of a new mar­quee player rule to sign the ex-NRL star to a two-and-a-half year deal.

How­ever the Rugby Foot­ball League de­cided to hon­our a ban im­posed by the NRL and an in­de­pen­dent op­er­a­tional rules tri­bunal af­ter Barba tested pos­i­tive for co­caine dur­ing Cronulla’s NRL Pre­mier­ship cel­e­bra­tions.

Barba ar­rived at the Saints via French rugby union club Toulon with the hefty sus­pen­sion hang­ing over his head.
