Keneally joins Bennelong battle

The Observer - - NEWS | NATION & WORLD -

FORMER NSW premier and Labor star Kristina Keneally will contest the Bennelong by-election. It is expected to be held early next month, with Liberal MP John Alexander having fallen victim to the citizenship crisis that continues to rock Federal Parliament. Ms Keneally’s nomination means Mr Alexander faces a much tighter contest to retain the inner-Sydney seat. It fell to former ABC presenter Maxine McKew in 2007 when she beat then prime minister John Howard. The US-born Ms Keneally said she had renounced her citizenship before she ran for state parliament.
