Tributes flow for Aussie
THE Tasmanian woman killed while cycling in New York City is being remembered as a beautiful girl and as a bubbly and bright soul.
Madison Lyden, 23, died shortly after being struck by a garbage truck near Central Park on Friday afternoon, US time.
Ms Lyden (pictured) moved to Victoria in 2016 to study.
A friend from Deakin University, Emily Boubis, posted on social media: “Rest in peace Maddy … You brought so much love, light and laughter to my life, and I’ll cherish that for a very long time. You were a bubbly and bright soul, and a wonderful friend. Thank you for everything we shared.”
Friend Steph Keating wrote: “Mads lived life to the fullest, and was the most fun and bubbliest girl around. Sending so much love to Madi’s family. RIP gorgeous girl.”
Guilford Young College published a social media post that acknowledged “with great sadness” Ms Lyden’s death.
“A great friend of many of our past students,” the college wrote.
The truck driver who fatally struck Ms Lyden at Central Park has briefly appeared in court charged with drink-driving.
