Power pole comes to rest on house in West Gladstone

The Observer - - NEWS - Mark Zita

MORE than 200 properties were left without power for about seven hours after a power pole fell and landed on the roof of a house in West Gladstone yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a house on the corner of Byrne Street and Smith Street after midday, and police immediately closed the area for safety concerns.

Ergon Energy crews immediately responded to the incident, and cut power to the area in order to safely repair the damage.

Power for houses in the immediate vicinity, including those on Rigby and Matson Cres and Upper Piper, Patrick, Paterson, Harvey and Busteed Sts, were affected by the power outage caused by the pole failure.

Spokesman Ty Marega said they apologise to customers who have been inconvenienced by the outage.

“We’re appealing for their patience,” Mr Marega said.

Ergon does not know what caused the power pole to go down, but Mr Marega said the pole will be replaced.

“No one was injured as a result of the power pole failure,” he said.

“We’re still determining exactly what caused that pole to fail.”

Mr Marega reminds residents to stay clear of power lines if they fall to the ground. Give us a call on 13 16 70 if you come across fallen power lines.”

Ergon estimated power would be restored to affected households by 7pm last night.
