Mall project a strain on budget

The Queensland Times - - NEWS OPINION - — GRAHAM DOUGLAS Eastern Heights

IN THE QT of Friday 29 September 2017 we learn the Ipswich City Council has revised its plans for the Ipswich City Mall property development and is to delete a small lawn because it would have cost an estimated $5 million!

This is an indication of the poor planning that has gone into this unjustifiable mall property development project.

Past estimates of the cost have been up to $150 million. What will be the total blow-out in cost for the whole project if a lawn is now estimated to be impractical because of cost?

Clearly councillors are not good at property development, nor should they be. Their responsibility is to represent the citizens with integrity, transparency and commitment to inclusive community development.

Now is the time for the Council to stop owning its property development company Ipswich City Properties and stop this unnecessary Mall project before it wastes more ratepayers money and bankrupts the Council.
