Bank job pays off big for Baird
FORMER NSW premier Mike Baird has cashed in by making the switch to banking, more than tripling his base salary to $1.26 million.
He resigned from his $358,000 per year political job on January 19 before joining National Australia Bank as chief customer officer on April 21.
According to the NAB annual report, Mr Baird earned a total of $888,845 from April 21 to September 30. This included a base salary of $558,239 along with bonuses.
If the base salary was averaged out over an entire year it would equal
$1.26 million – more than three times what he was paid as premier.
Surprisingly, Mr Baird’s salary was dwarfed by another new starter at the bank, chief technology and operations officer Patrick Wright.
He joined NAB a week after Mr Baird on April 26 and was paid a whopping $4.38 million over the 157 days to September 30.
This made him the second highest paid executive at the bank after chief executive Andrew Thorburn, who was paid $6.63 million.
