Bowls club turns pink

-

MOAMA Bowling Club is preparing to pink up for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA)’s annual Pink Sports Day on October 9.

Pink Sports Day is an opportunity for sporting groups around Australia to show their support for, and pay tribute to, people in their local community who have been affected by breast cancer.

Last year more than 1200 clubs across Australia took part to show their support for those affected by the disease.

This year Moama Bowling Club will join sporting groups nationwide as they rally together in a bid to raise $500,000.

Funds raised go directly to BCNA to ensure breast cancer sufferers receive the best support, information, treatment and care appropriate to their individual needs.

BCNA chief executive Christine Nolan said Pink Sports Day was an important event.

“Nearly 16,000 Australian women and 150 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer year,’’ she said.

‘‘These women – mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends – need to know that they are supported and not alone.

“Pink Sports Day is a wonderful event that inspires great community participation and spirit, while raising awareness and vital funds for BCNA, and we are very grateful for your support,” she said.

Moama Bowling Club sports administration assistant Apollo Birch is urging the local community to get behind the day.

“Pink Sports Day is a great opportunity for the whole community to head down to the Moama Bowling Club and support not only the teams competing on the day, but also those in the local community who have been affected by breast cancer,” Apollo said.

“We hope that everyone will come together, pink up and get behind the teams as they play for a great cause.”

The club will host a bowls event, raffles and barbecue lunch from noon on October 9 as part of its fundraising efforts.
