Motorcyclist airlifted to Melbourne

- By Ivy Wise

A MOTORCYCLIST was flown to a Melbourne hospital after a twovehicle accident in Echuca on Friday.

Leading Senior Constable Frank Scopelliti of Echuca police said that a delivery truck driving along Mt Terricks Rd apparently overshot Wharparilla Rd where it had to turn and stopped and reversed onto a motorcyclist behind him just before 2.30pm.

‘‘He stopped and didn’t think anyone was behind him and when he reversed went over the motorbike, dragging the motorcylist about 15-20m under the truck,’’ he said.

The 63-year-old motoryclist from Echuca suffered serious leg injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. His bike was destroyed. The Echuca truck driver, aged 30, was badly shaken but not injured.

‘‘Inquiries are pending,’’ Snr Constable Scopelliti said.

‘‘There were no witnesses to the accident.’’
