Drive to beat disease

- By Vivienne Duck

NAOMI Beasley knows all too well what Motor Neuron Disease can do.

She lost her mother to the horrific disease in 2002 and is ready to once again jump in a car and drive across two states in Daniher’s Drive.

And to raise money for the Fight MND Foundation, Naomi is calling on the Echuca-Moama community to attend the Fight MND Big Night Out fundraiser at Junction Moama on August 12.

‘‘My mother passed away from this cruel disease so I know too well the horrific journey those suffering have to endure, as well as knowing immediately they are diagnosed they will die as a result,’’ Mrs Beasley said.

‘‘Mum had the disease for the usual amount of time — for about 27 months.

‘‘My two brothers are also taking part in Daniher’s Drive in another car (Lorna’s Crew), so the whole family will be supporting the cause and supporting mum.’’

The team, Lorna’s Girls, will see Mrs Beasley supported by Amelia Costin, Kylie Tate-Smith and Narelle Crawford.

‘‘Last year we raised over $16,000, and collectively with my brothers almost $32,000, so we hope to beat this tally this year,’’ Mrs Beasley said.

The fundraising event will feature an in-house DJ and canapes as well as beer, wine and sparking all night.

‘‘There are also silent auctions and raffles as well as the popular normal auction.

‘‘With all things being auctioned donated by local businesses, which we are very thankful for.

‘‘The community support for the event and for me has been really amazing so it would be great to see that support continue on the night.’’

Tickets are $95 and they can be purchased by going online www.stickytickets.com.au/53991

To be eligible for the lucky door prize of a $200 Junction voucher, tickets need to be purchased by this Friday, July 28. to
