scoring had the Bulldogs record just 13 goals for the term.

Mathoura was limited to five goals to trail 16-48 at the final break.

A mammoth effort from Carter in the fourth of 21 goals saw the home side run away with the game as the depleted Timbercutters ran out of legs.

Mathoura’s attention has now turned to Berrigan, but its next best chance at a win would be round 17 when the Timbercutters take on Jerilderie away.

Jerilderie’s only win this season came in round eight over Mathoura who would be putting a lot of hope on the game as the closest team they’d matched up against this season.

They had been building earlier in the year as their combinations looked to settle and a win seemed not too far away, but their recent scorelines have told a different story as teams have continued to smash them.

They would hope to have a few more back for the game against Berrigan at home this weekend.

The opposition would be hungry for the win after coming off a close loss to Deniliquin Rovers, who were sitting second on the ladder. A SHATTERING one-goal loss has cost LeitchvilleGunbower’s A grade netballers a chance to cement their place in the Heathcote and District Netball League finals.

Against Huntly, both sides entered the game with seven wins, locked in a battle for the lower positions inside the HDNL top five.

But it was the Hawks who prevailed 49-48 to move a game clear of the Bombers and give themselves some breathing room for the last three rounds of the home and away season.

The game put two evenly matched teams against one another, and LG coach Jodie Lake said the play on the court had reflected that.

‘‘It was really tight all the way through; the lead either way didn’t ever really get above three,’’ she said.

‘‘They led the majority of

‘‘It was just one of those up and down games.’’

Lake said the Hawks ability to focus in the dying stages won them the game.

‘‘They were able to hold their concentration 30 seconds longer than us, and that’s all it took, one single play,’’ she said.

‘‘In hindsight it was just those 20 to 30 seconds that cost us, but we’re confident we can turn it around and we were happy with the four quarters.’’

The result didn’t knock Lake’s confidence in her side’s ability to impact finals, after a balanced display of intelligent netball.

‘‘It was really hard to pick standout players because it was such a team effort, so noone got best on court.’’

She suggested the side would continue to keep their play simple and concentrate on the basics to improve before a potential final.

‘‘We’ll keep getting back to basics because it’s worked really well for us,’’ Lake said.

‘‘We’ll also keep working on our basic systems, when we get them down pat we’ll be a really tight unit.’’

LG was aided by Lockington-Bamawm United’s loss to White Hills, the Bombers still fifth on the ladder with a game in hand on the 7-7 Cats.
