The Riverine Herald - - NEWS -

ECHUCA police are appealing for information into the double fatality at Tongala on the weekend.

Mackay couple Joe, 69, and Jeanette Baggow, 61, were killed in the two-car collision at the intersection of the Murray Valley Hwy and Scobie Rd just after 8am on Saturday.

On Thursday, Leading Senior Constable Gary Atkins of Echuca police said it appeared the couple, travelling in an SUV, had turned into the path of a 4WD towing a boat.

Five people were in the 4WD; a man aged in his 40s suffering spinal and chest injuries and a teenage girl with pelvis injuries. They were taken to Goulburn Valley and Echuca hospitals respectively in stable conditions.

Paramedics treated two other adults and a teenager, who didn’t need hospitalisation. Snr Constable Atkins said investigations were continuing, with a coronial inquest expected to be held.

‘‘We’re appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the accident or stopped to render assistance to come forward,’’ he said.

Anyone with information can contact him at Echuca police on 5483 1500.
