An e-ban for our e-waste

THE VIC­TO­RIAN Gov­ern­ment is seek­ing com­mu­nity and in­dus­try in­put on its pro­posed ban on elec­tronic waste from land­fill.

E-waste in­cludes any de­vice re­quir­ing a power cord or bat­tery and is no longer wanted or use­ful, in­clud­ing phones, com­put­ers and com­puter ac­ces­sories, and even kitchen equip­ment such as toast­ers.

A pol­icy im­pact as­sess­ment and draft waste man­age­ment poli­cies that will give ef­fect to the ban have been re­leased for pub­lic com­ment for three months, with it ex­pected to be im­ple­mented by July.
