The Force is strong in 2017

The Riverine Herald - - BOWLS -

PERENNIAL Southern 80 contenders and skiing powerhouse Merc Force has taken out one of Australia’s toughest races.

Fellow contender Superman had won the Grafton Bridge to Bridge event for the last four years, but engine trouble meant it couldn’t complete the gruelling 108-kilometre course.

It meant the 2017 Southern 80 champions could add a further prize to an outstanding year, seizing the opportunity to win the race by nearly 30 seconds from fellow New South Wales based team Stinga F1.

The writing had been on the wall for Superman in the previous day’s shootout, mechanical failure ruling it out of the contest just 700 metres in to its run.

It has been a brilliant year for the Merc Force team, adding this title to the Southern 80, Mildura 100 as well as multiple world championships in Seattle in August.
