Moving targets provide a tough test
ECHUCA-MOAMA Field and Game held its September shoot on Sunday, September 17 at the Barnes Road ground.
A total of 83 shooters came along to try their luck at Jason and Tanya Smith’s course, with Russell Hooper from Pinegrove kicking the day off with a perfect round of 25 in his first outing.
The Smiths provided a great variety of targets for shooters in every grade.
With the stations starting to the north of the clubrooms, station two consisted of an incoming target that floated in towards shooters, then a quick, close looper, followed by a report pair of both.
Station four tested shooters eyesight, with a small overhead target referred to as a bee thrown, followed by an incoming target over the tree tops, followed by a pair.
The final station consisted of two long and high incoming targets off the clubs big truck, with the targets coming in above the shooters. A well placed shot saw the targets turn to dust in an impressive display.
With shooters completing three rounds of 25 targets over the day, and with only four targets separating High Gun and the three place winners in AA grade, Pinegrove member Adrian Orchard came out on top, shooting 24, 23, 24 (71 off the gun) to win High Gun.
With our generous sponsor for the day being Echuca Furniture Stores, president Ricky Keirl presented winners with their trophies and shotgun shells at the end of the day.
1st in AA grade went to EchucaMoama’s Rod Wharton, A grade was taken out by Deniliquin’s Russell Chaplin, B grade winner was Michael Maher from Shepparton and Echuca-Moama’s Daryl Scott won C grade.
Vets winner was the birthday boy Fred McKenner, ladies went to Barrook’s Emily Jones, juniors was won by local Tom Cox, and sub juniors went to Barrook’s Ryan Archard.
The club’s next competition will be held this Sunday, October 15 beginning at 10am. This will be our 100 target 26th Anniversary Shoot, and thanks to two very generous sponsors, WIKA and Townrow Quality Seed Grading Service we are offering prizes down to fifth place in every grade and category.
The club is also excited to announce that after a successful Come and Try Day last year, we are doing it again on Sunday, October 29.
This day provides those wanting to try clay target shooting the chance to do so in a fun and safe environment. The day is open to anyone aged 12 years and older (under 18s need parent supervision).
