It all started at the pub

The Riverine Herald - - BUSINESS AWARD 2017 -

IT WAS a celebration of more than 1100 members when Waterpool Co-op took out the professional service award.

Like all good businesses, Waterpool Co-op started at a pub.

It was founded in 2002 by half a dozen concerned irrigators following the closure of the Watermove Pooled Water Exchange.

Within the space of a month, the idea and concern transformed into a fully-operational, well-funded and member owned co-operative with 50 foundation members.

‘‘This is pretty exciting,’’ member Peter Lawford said.

‘‘We have a pretty interesting story and from our beginnings, we now have in excess of 1100 members and conduct more than 2000 water trades each year.

‘‘This is for the members who drive our business.

‘‘Our organisation is built around relationships and this award just reinforces our dedication and will to succeed.’’

Mr Lawford said the award was simply ‘‘reward for effort’’. ‘‘This is for our members,’’ he said. ■ Finalists were DWM Solutions, Infinesse, Rochester and Moama Dental and RPS.
