Big names up for the challenge
THE Pro start lists are stacked for Challenge Shepparton in the triathlon’s 20th year.
Eighteen men and 10 women Pros from all corners of the world will battle it out for a prize purse of $20,000.
All eyes will be on Australians Dan Wilson (2016 men’s winner) and Luke Bell (2015) as they go to war on a course described as flat and fast.
Not to be ruled out, Kiwi stalwart Cameron Brown is also expected to be at the pointy end of the field.
With a remarkable race resume of success it is expected he will draw on his vast race experience to challenge his competition – some more than 20 years his junior.
In the hotly-contested women’s race, Jacqui Slack the XTERRA Triathlon superstar from the UK, will be trading in the mountain bike and putting the pressure on race favourite Annabel Luxford.
The Australian who won at Shepparton in 2014 with a blistering 80 minute run is expected to be shoulder to shoulder with international favourite, Anna Eberhardt of Hungary, coming off the back of an impressive Northern Hemisphere season.
Eberhardt recently moved to Singapore a year ago.
With nine top five finishes throughout Asia in the past year, it seems Eberhardt has adjusted well and has firmly set herself as a contender for the Challenge Shepparton title in 2017.
While the Pros will garnish much of the attention across the weekend it is also expected the age group races will be equally competitive, with a host of categories.
From the McDonald’s tri-kids races for kids, the enticer triathlon for those getting into the sport to the Challenge Shepparton Sprint and Classic triathlon for those that may not be up for the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run that encompasses the main event, Challenge Shepparton.
The event hub is situated at the Victoria Park Lake precinct, Wyndham St, Shepparton.
It’s expected to be a hive of activity with food trucks, music and a host of other activities where commentators will call home the 1500 expected participants across the weekend.
The Challenge Shepparton Triathlon Festival takes place on November 11-12.
