MEMORIES FROM THE FRONT LINES
WORLD War I, the Great War, ended at 11am 100 years ago this Sunday. By the time the shooting had stopped the flower of a generation had been lost in unparalleled carnage. Yet just 20 years later it would begin again – but on a scale never imagined by the military, politicians and the power brokers who won the war but lost the peace. This year, to mark this historic milestone, the Riverine Herald, with the support of Moama Bowling Club, Moama RSL club, Echuca Workers and Services Club and Rich River Golf Club Resort, interviewed some of our few remaining World War II veterans, all well into their 90s, about their war. The interviews can be heard as podcasts or, on November 11, be watched as videos at riverineherald.com.au
