Lees mare to follow in Lucia’s hoofsteps

The Sportsman Midweek - - Camera Charts - ALAN GOLLOGLY

LAST start Randwick winner, the Kris Leestrained KARAVALI will be aiming to emulate former stablemate Lucia Valentina when she lines up in Saturday’s Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

“Lucia” landed the prize in 2015 — God love her and Karavali’s reverse way course proper gallop on Saturday morning indicated that this mare will give a ton of cheek.

After a strong canter Karavali upped the tempo at the 1000m covering that trip in 1.07.50 with a final hard held 600m in 37.00.

And if rain affected track Karavali’s chances will receive a boost.

Also having spin in reverse was last start longshot Everest Day winner GRAND CONDOR and he did it easily covering 800m in 52.90 (37.80).

Grand Condor will be entered for a 955 metre event at Moonee Valley night meeting on November 17.

YULONG XINGSHENG will be competitive in the Lexus Hybrid Plate ( Race 6) at Flemington on Cup Day as her trackwork was encouraging before departure.

Early last week she galloped anticlockwise over 800m in 53.50

(37.60) and was under severe restraint. Worth an inclusion in your exotic bets.

DOUKHAM (Race 4 Randwick today) will appreciate the drop in grade from St. Leger to a Benchmark 75.

The stayer strode out boldly on Tuesday over 1400m in 1.29.80 (38.60) and I was quite taken with his turn of hoof over the latter stages. PRINCESS POSH ( Race 5) and ROSA CAROLINA ( Race 6) joined forces over 1000m on the course proper and duo hit the line under tight holds.

Their time of 1.09.40 (36.60) could have been lowered considerably had their riders desired.

GUARD OF HONOUR is back in training and the good looking chestnut was a picture of health stretching over 800m in 56.00 (41.70).

MAGICALEASE has trained on nicely since his first-up Scone win and looked in superb order doing 1000m in even time.

Lonhro filly VALERIA who impressed with her debut win has had a relatively quiet week but looked fantastic gliding up 600m in 39.90.

There appears a “short but sweet” all up play at Muswellbrook this afternoon.

LOMAZZO (Race 3) and KULNURA 7) have both trained on well since their last runs and the in form Aaron Bullock the saddle is a bonus especially from low draws.

Karavali is poised to score back to back wins when she lines up in the Matriarch Stakes.
