Derryn’s on song for his next assignment

The Sportsman Midweek - - Trackwork - WARREN HUNTLY

DERRYN has been kept on the fresh side since his last start in Sydney and he looked bright and fit completing a short sharp workout last Thursday morning.

The son of Hinchinbrook, prepared by the Hayes and Dabernig partnership, quickened nicely at end of his hit out to clock 54.15 for 800m and 24.21 for his final 400m.

He is likely to head to next Saturday’s feature meeting at Sandown and is ready run well. The Mike Moroney-trained

POTEMKIN is racing in great form and holding his condition well. He was kept up to the mark galloping over 1400m last Thursday and pulled well after covering the journey in 1.39.86 his last 400m in 25.77.

Connections have a few options for him in the next week or so and he is sure to prove hard to run down once again.

DODGE CITY, also prepared by Moroney, found the 1400m far too short when resuming at Geelong recently but he has come through that race well and worked solidly last Thursday morning in preparation for his next assignment.

Although he still has more improvement to come he pulled up well after Thursday morning’s hit out, clocking 1.22.08 for 1200m, 24.73 for his closing 400m and is capable of improving dramatically when he steps up in distance for his second-up the near future.

Another Moroney-trained runner in UBER COUGAR has been progressing well in recent weeks and will also be suited when she steps up distance beyond the 1411m of her recent second-up run.

The four-year- old daughter of Shocking had plenty up her sleeve galloping solo over 400m last Thursday, covering the trip in 1.40.26 and her last

26.11. Although her maiden victory in New Zealand came over 1200m she is shaping as a staying type now that she is more mature and will be lining up in more suitable races from here on in the preparation.

SANGLIER was scratched from Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington last Saturday and it could prove worthwhile to follow the two-year- old son of Albrecht when James Cummings settles on a suitable alternative event.

He wasn’t out to run fast time last Tuesday morning and cruised through his 800m workout to cover the trip in 57.97 his final 400m 26.03.

At his only start to date he performed creditably down the Flemington straight over 1000m and should be suited stepping up slightly in distance at his next start.
