Lees pair on song ahead of Cameron
PRIZED ICON and SENSE OF OCCASION will carry entries in Friday’s Group 3 $160,000 Cameron Handicap (1500m) at the Newcastle Cup meeting and Kris Leestrained duo joined forces on the course proper (soft 5, 20m out) on Saturday morning.
Both horses were under restraint when they clocked 1.12.05 for 1000m coming up the final 600m in a comfortable 38.00 with Prized Icon having a half-length advantage at the post.
Prized Icon was a creditable last start fifth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes while Sense Occasion will be first-up after suffering a tendon injury in November last year.
Last year’s Cameron winner GOT UNDERS has been out of form but he looked sharp when cruising over 800m in 53.75 (38.10).
The Group 3 $160,000 Spring Stakes (1600m) for three-yearolds is the likely target for impressive last start track winner SUNREEL.
The daughter of Dundeel hasn’t raced since August 15 but was kept ticking over with a quiet 1000m trial at Gosford nine days ago.
Sunreel also worked over
1000m in a leisurely 1.12.90 (39.90).
MISS FABULASS enhanced her chances for Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick by producing a superb gallop.
After a steady canter she covered 800m in 52.05 with a hard held last 600m in 37.00 and powered through the line with gusto.
If circumstances allow, Miss Fabulass will be ridden a tad quieter in the early stages of the Tea Rose.
Promising filly REGINAE
has trained on in the desired manner since winning at Randwick last start.
She worked anti clockwise over 800m in an easy 53.90 (38.00) and is likely to appear next in the Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 22. CLEARLY INNOCENT was one of the first to use the course proper and the Group 1 winning seven-year- old wasn’t asked to do much clocking in at 54.95/39.70 for 800m.
I have never seen him better shape and he may head to Flemington for a dash down the straight in early November.
LE ROMAIN endured a tough run in the Group 2 Tramway on September 1 but he has bounced back quickly and had a glow in his coat when gliding over 1000m in 1.13.85 (41.50).
Everest runner IN HER TIME did strong pacework over 1200m in preparation for her exhibition gallop between races on Friday.
Lightly raced (3sts 2-1- 0) All Too Hard mare WARUNA is gearing up for her next first-up and she looked the part strolling over 1000m on pro ride in 1.07.50 (38.40).
Hoofnote: Sixteen trials were staged on a rain affected Wyong surface yesterday and a report will be in next week’s edition.
Prized Icon is working well ahead of his next assignment.
