The Sportsman Midweek - - Trackwork - — Greg Spletter

William Pike has another great set of rides at Belmont tomorrow and the best of them looks to be in the last with

SAINT STEPHEN (R9 No. 10). He drew poorly start and missed the kick to boot, but still rallied to get very close to Supreme Force at the end of 1400m. The six-year-old has been a different racehorse since pairing up with the state’s leading hoop and from the perfect gate they can go one better. Pike also partners first starter ARCADIA QUEEN (R2 No. 8) for her first race start and she should kick off her career with a win in an extremely weak field. She won a trial here back July and looks ready to produce a big first-up run following her latest warm-up over 950m with Pike in the saddle. She is very well bred and doesn’t need to be much above average to beat these.

MYCROFT (R7 No. 6) has struck wet tracks at his two hitouts for Ross Price and back on top of the ground tomorrow will go well. We’re following same Supreme Force formline here and this bloke certainly hit the line with enough gusto to suggest he is looking for this trip. Last time he got out this distance range he was contesting stakes races in carnival time and is a likely improver third-up.
