Chautauqua is one step closer to a return
CHAUTAUQUA was the centre of attention during last Friday’s jumpouts and star sprinter prepared by Team Hawkes took a step closer to resuming his racing career.
He left the barriers cleanly and was allowed to settle at the tail of field of four with TRUE EXCELSIOR mustering good speed to win the heat.
Her winning time of 45.46 for distance of about 800m was the quickest the morning’s session with SUNSET WATCH and BOOKER completing the high class quartet that participated in the heat.
Chautauqua wasn’t extended at any stage to finish about three or four lengths from True Excelsior and now must gain the stewards approval in an official barrier trial before he can head back to the races.
FUN FACT wasn’t able to adopt his usual on speed tactics in Adelaide last time out but he has returned to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Flemington base in great order and heads to the Derby Trial at
tomorrow for his next start.
He looked strong and fit galloping over 1200m last Tuesday morning pulled up well after covering the journey in 1.21.23 and his last 400m in. 25.25.
It would be no surprise to see him settle in a forward position tomorrow and prove hard to run down. The Chris Waller-trained
has come through her recent win at Moonee Valley in terrific shape and looked a picture of health going through her paces last Tuesday morning.
She appeared to have plenty up her sleeve galloping over 1000m and looked bright and fit after completing her workout in 1.10.34 and closing 400m 25.28.
Connections are sure to find another suitable race in the next week or so and she is ready to run to her best.
STRIKE FORCE is deep into his preparation but the Mike Moroney-trained galloper looks to have freshened up nicely since his last start victory at Moonee Valley and is holding condition well.
He was kept up to the mark covering 1400m last Thursday morning and finished off his work in good style to clock 1.38.74 for the trip and 25.04 for his final 400m.
Moroney has him in great order to step out over 1630m at Flemington tomorrow and he is sure run well again.
VAINGLORIOUS has been kept on the fresh side since her last start over 1600m at Sandown and Steve Richardstrained daughter of So You Think looks in good order to head to Flemington tomorrow.
Last Friday she was given a fairly easy time in a jumpout over approximately 800m to finish about two lengths from the DIABOLICAL who clocked 45.89 in winning the heat.
That time compared favourably with most other heats conducted during the morning and Vainglorious is capable of improving dramatic all on her most recent run tomorrow.
