Slipper faves on show
LEADING Golden Slipper contenders Sebring and Montana Flyer will put their credentials on the line at Randwick on Saturday.
Sebring, the $10 Slipper favourite, has won his two starts so far including the Canonbury Stakes while his Gai Waterhouse-trained stablemate Montana Flyer won her debut on February 9 to cement second favouritism at $11.
Montana Flyer is one of 17 twoyear-old fillies entered for the Gimcrack Stakes while Sebring is one of 10 nominations in the colts and geldings division, the Breeders Plate, both over 1100 metres.
Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan has joined Montana Flyer on the second line of betting for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 19 while Sugar Babe ($13), who did not run in Saturday’s Blue Diamond, has been entered for the Gimcrack.
The winner of the Debutants Stakes in October, Sugar Babe finished second to Believe’n’succeed in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 9.
The filly is trained by Lee Freedman who has won the Golden Slipper on four occasions with Bint Marscay (1993), Danzero (1994) Flying Spur (1995) and Merlene (1996).
