Slip­per faves on show

LEAD­ING Golden Slip­per con­tenders Se­bring and Mon­tana Flyer will put their cre­den­tials on the line at Rand­wick on Satur­day.

Se­bring, the $10 Slip­per favourite, has won his two starts so far in­clud­ing the Canon­bury Stakes while his Gai Waterhouse-trained sta­ble­mate Mon­tana Flyer won her de­but on Fe­bru­ary 9 to ce­ment sec­ond favouritism at $11.

Mon­tana Flyer is one of 17 twoyear-old fil­lies en­tered for the Gim­crack Stakes while Se­bring is one of 10 nom­i­na­tions in the colts and geld­ings di­vi­sion, the Breed­ers Plate, both over 1100 me­tres.

Blue Di­a­mond Stakes win­ner Reaan has joined Mon­tana Flyer on the sec­ond line of bet­ting for the $3.5 mil­lion Golden Slip­per (1200m) on April 19 while Sugar Babe ($13), who did not run in Satur­day’s Blue Di­a­mond, has been en­tered for the Gim­crack.

The win­ner of the Debu­tants Stakes in Oc­to­ber, Sugar Babe fin­ished sec­ond to Be­lieve’n’suc­ceed in the Blue Di­a­mond Pre­lude on Fe­bru­ary 9.

The filly is trained by Lee Freed­man who has won the Golden Slip­per on four oc­ca­sions with Bint Marscay (1993), Danzero (1994) Fly­ing Spur (1995) and Mer­lene (1996).
