Vengeur Masque led from Penglai Pav­il­ion, they raced about four clear of Chance To Dance and As­sign, Po­lar­i­sa­tion was right be­hind that pair. Annus Mirabilis and Mis­ter Im­pa­tience set­tled a fur ther cou­ple back and Big Duke and Libran were next. At about the 1000m Libran was the first to be pulled up. Only six horses con­tin­ued, Vengeur Masque was un­der pres­sure on tur n and was headed by Penglai Pav­il­ion while a cou­ple of lengths away Po­lar­i­sa­tion ran to third as As­sign dropped off and Annus Mirabilis was hard rid­den. Po­lar­i­sa­tion wore down the two lead­ers to win by about half a length, Chance To Dance ran sec­ond and Penglai Pav­il­ion a close third. They were well clear of Annus Mirabilis.
