Typhoon to stand at Bullarook
THE one and only foal of the ill-fated Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy will carry on her legacy at stud.
The aptly-named Last Typhoon will stand at Bullarook Stud in Victoria a fee of $4400.
Typhoon Tracy won six Group 1 races during a stellar career that saw her crowned Australian Horse of the Year in 2009/10.
The daughter Red Ransom and South African champion Tracy’s Element retired to stud in the 2011 season with a visit to Street Cry.
Sadly, the mare died soon after foaling resulting colt – hence name Last Typhoon.
Last Typhoon was passed in at $2.1m at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, $500,000 more than the eventual sale topper.
The son of Winx’s sire, Street Cry, was retained by his breeder John Hutchins who bred and raced Typhoon Tracy throughout her illustrious career.
Originally housed with Typhoon Tracy’s trainer Peter Moody, Last Typhoon, won at Bairndsale and Donald over 2000m both times.
“The Street Cry influence is a big tick for me,” said Bullarook’s Malcolm Boyd.
“He is a champion sire, proven in Australian conditions, who has three sons at stud in Victoria and this fellow is from a simply outstanding family.”
Street Cry is a proven sire of sires with Per Incanto, Shocking, Boss and Street Sense all siring Australasian Group 1 winners.
Last Typhoon will stand alongside Lucas Cranach, Strategic Manuever and Helissio son Azevado.
