Snow set for MV repeat

A SOLID track gallop at Mornington has trainer Jason Warren upbeat Violent Snow can repeat her laststart performance when she chases back-to-back Moonee Valley wins.

Violent Snow burst between runners to win a 1500m-benchmark 84 race for fillies and mares at Moonee Valley last Saturday week, the five-year-old’s second win from three starts at the unique Melbourne track.

She returns to the Valley for tomorrow’s Kane Constructions Handicap, stepping up to 1600m in the same grade as last time, and Warren was encouraged by both the mare’s work on Wednesday and the report from her rider.

“She galloped on course proper at Mornington and our track rider thought it was a better gallop than what she put in before her last run,” Warren said.

“So fingers crossed she can repeat the performance.”

Violent Snow has won three metropolitan races this season and given two of those wins have been at Moonee Valley her trainer was more than happy to send her there again. “I’m just aiming keep

against the mares at this stage as well,” Warren said.

“I think she gets in well the weights for having won there last start and still being in restricted company.”

Violent Snow goes up from 56kg to 58.5kg but Warren believes she deserves the weight.

“I would be expecting her to run really well again,” Warren said.

Violent Snow is one of five winners from the June 3 program scheduled to run again at Moonee Valley, with Whistle Baby, Magic Consol, Camdus and Katsuro the others.

Violent Snow settled at the back of the field last start and Warren said she was probably out-sprinted mid-race before powering home in the last 100m after saving ground.

The mare has barrier three with Daniel Stackhouse retaining the ride.

“Hopefully he won’t have to do a great deal on her from that barrier and he’ll be in behind the speed somewhere midfield,” Warren said.

“Then hopefully we can get through. That’s the thing, you need a bit of luck in running with these sorts of horses.”
