Tal­ented sprinter ready to make his ri­vals feel the Pinch

HE’S not a po­ten­tial spring star but con­sis­tent sprinter Devils Pinch has sig­nalled he’s ready for a first-up win with an­other solid jump out per­for­mance at Caulfield on Tues­day.

It’s been a month be­tween tri­als and he put away the 800m heat in bet­ter than av­er­age time for the morn­ing.

The geld­ing has al­ready been three times city placed, a cou­ple of them nar­row de­feats, and is a proven first-up per­former.

Heat 1 (49.34): OAK DOOR landed in front of GREAT ES­TEEM with about three lengths to MINNIE

DOWNS im­prov­ing past ANNUS MIRABILIS and FLY­ING JESS. Oak Door broke right away midrace and scored eas­ily by four from Great Es­teem and Minnie Downs. Oth­ers: Lady Esprit, Ber­isha. Heat 2 (49.11): THE AN­SWER MYFRIEND over raced a bit in front

from TYPHOON MONACO, TADDEI TONDO and DANUKI in a line. The an­swer my friend set­tled down a bit held about two on Taddei Tondo and Danuki. Oth­ers: Lo­vani, Rell­son, Star For­tune. Heat 3 (48.17): ST SWITHUNS, SPOILS and POPOVICH con­tested the lead ahead of KING’S AUTHOR­ITY. JUKEBOX got go­ing in mid­dle stages and railed un­der­neath them all to hit the front and un­der pushes kicked away to beat St Swithuns and King’s Author­ity. Oth­ers: Twist­ing Typhoon, Lone Ea­gle, Mo­town Lil. Heat 4 (48.44): BLONDIE and DEVILS PINCH jumped best led from SHE’S SO HIGH and INDERNILE. Devils Pinch started to edge away late and beat Blondie a length with Inidernile and DIVINE JEWEL close up. Oth­ers: Beach Life, Ouyang Feng, Casino Four­teen. Heat 5 (48.84): NATCHWHALI headed ZHANG LIAO with EX­PER­I­MEN­TA­TION (3c, Smer­don) three out and ALL TOO HARD/BAKARI (McCarthy) punch­ing up in­side.

MERCHANT NAVY headed the rest. Natchwhali raced clear late to down Merchant Navy clos­ing well and Ex­per­i­men­ta­tion. Oth­ers: Den- mix, Exfly­ta­tions, Nothin’ On Me. Heat 6 (49.16): WATCH MY SHADOW took it up from OMOROSE and JESSEJ three out. RE­SET/ME­DIA STORM (Noblet) and MASUTA (3g, Ryan) sat a cou­ple back. With most tested out Omorose just held on from Watch My Shadow and AERO­PLANE clos­ing in ahead of Jessej. Oth­ers: Mar­got, Dame Vassa. Heat 7 (48.33): TO­TALLY KAPTIVATED showed speed to lead ST GALLEN (3f, Ma­her) with OUR BLANC CAN­VAS (4m, Price) im­prov­ing and VOYANT next. To­tally Kaptivated seemed to travel well and held a length on St Gallen also not asked and Voyant stoked up in third. Oth­ers: Fu­tur­ist, King Kab­uto, Novem­ber Gale, Lady In Pur­ple. Heat 8 (49.16): PASEO DEL RIO beat them out from VITRIOLIC AT­TACK and RUBY RED SOCKS (3f, Oliver). A cou­ple to SCHAPPOSE (3c, Price) and LINA’S HERO (3g, Vasil). Paseo Del Rio kept run­ning and eas­ily beat Vitriolic At­tack by three with a sim­i­lar gap to Ruby Red Socks. Oth­ers: Valiant Spirit, Viller­mont, Wahini Miss.

Heat 9 (48.94): Bunched group with ACUTUS (3c, Dwyer), PROUD

GEN­ERAL, BAM (3c, Ryan) and PLATO ba­si­cally in a line just ahead of SOME­THING SIL­VER. Bam was held to­gether while Acutus and Plato were pushed up the hill with the lat­ter win­ning nar­rowly. Oth­ers: West­erly Wind, Modernistic, Charleston Blue. Heat 10 (49.20): SHEL­LEY BEACH (3f, Webb) landed in front of RUBIKAT (3f, Sadler) with TAN TAT BLAZE (3g, Dwyer) and PANTONE wider out. Shel­ley Beach seemed to travel well held half a length on BLACK SAIL un­der more pres­sure and Rubikat a cou­ple fur­ther back. Oth­ers: Aqua­naut, Hos­tile Lily, Li­las.
