Kid’s quick as a Flash

The Sportsman Weekend - - Detailed Formguide For Morphettville - By SHAYNE O’CASS

KID FLASH, a great grandson of Brian Mayfield-Smith’s former crack filly Glory Girl, will take a power of beating in tomorrow’s SAJC Ubet Handicap (1050m) off the back a tremendous trial win at the Gawler heats held last Thursday.

The Tony McEvoy trained son of Shrapnel is 3s 1-1-0 so far, the unplaced run was a distant fourth at Moonee Valley on Dec. 31 to Golden Slipper placegetter Tulip.

Kid Flash is another McEvoy/ Mitchell bargain with a price tag of just $34,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale in 2016.

Two other McEvoy trained threeyear-olds that won heats at Gawler last week were ALL EEZ and OVER EXPOSURE.

All Eez won’t remain a maiden much long into his new and imminent campaign, ditto Rothesay colt Over Exposure.

A Glenlogan Park bred and part owned flashy chestnut supplied the ‘wow factor’ of the day coming from last and sweep down the middle of the track to win by 4.3-lens.

Damien Thornton Over Exposure one very pronounced crack on the rump with the whip at about 200m and that certainly seemed to focus this patently exciting unraced colt.

There’ll be considerable interest and no doubt solid support on the NSW TAB when I AM ZELADY contests the Group 3 SAJC Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The daughter of I Am Invincible has a lot of fans in Sydney from her days at Joe Pride’s stables at Warwick Farm.

I Am Zelady trialled brilliantly at Gawler last Thursday which while it wouldn’t have surprised new handler Phillip Stokes in any way, he must been over the moon with her win just the same. Helmet inspired son MY THREE SONS was excellent for the Stokes/ Tourneur combination when 2.2lens second to the aforementioned Kid Flash. Not bad for a horse who was having his first trial.

He’s bred to know what to do though being a half to Reldas and one of the fastest horses SA has produced in years, Victory Chant.

You would not for one moment think that JIM’S JOURNEY ran in Adelaide Cup last prep if you saw his trial at Gawler.

Granted he was given a Dom Tourneur special but even so, that was impressive and keep in mind for race day that Jim’s Journey has won three times from six first-up appearances.

Our others Gawler’s trials are SHEANNA, MILITARY OPERATION as well as BEAU’S MY BOY and MIO DIO, the latter will run in the Spring Stakes tomorrow and will have plenty of admirers.
