Over to share in Valley spoils
THE Menari form will be put to the test in tomorrow’s Listed MVRC McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at the Valley when Team Hawkes colt Overshare heads back ‘home’ to Victoria after a decent showing in the Rosebud at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
The Spendthrift Australia owned colt was close-up in the Blue Diamond Prelude and Preview at his first two starts.
He won a Canterbury midweeker in the winter but wasn’t seen again until his onpace 3.2-lens fourth to the barnstorming Menari in the $150,000 Rosebud on August 12.
“He just had to do a little bit too much from the barrier (7 of 8) and just worked within himself,” co-trainer Michael Hawkes explained.
“Had he drawn a barrier, he would have finished a lot closer, I am not saying he would have won but he have been right in the finish.
“The three horses who finished in front of him look like nice horses so hopefully everything goes to plan and it’s onwards and upwards.”
Overshare has drawn barrier 3 tomorrow.
