A ROUS­ING morn­ing t rack gal­lop at Caul field ear­lier in the week has G odolph in star Hart nell ready tot ur his Group 1 for tunes around in Sun­day’s M RC Un­der­wood Stakes(1800m) in Mel­bourne.

Hart nell is a dual Group 1 win­ner but with seven plac­ings to h name, two be - hindisne me sis Winx, an­other in a Mel­bourne Cup–his op­por­tu­ni­ties to bal­ance the ledger re fi ite.

“I think he’s re­ally ready at­tack the line and he showed real sharp­ness in a gal­lop at Cau field on Tues­day morn­ing and the re­ports from the team in Mel­bourne are re­ally strong ,” he said.

“He’s in great form, he’ sw el withhm self, tic king over beaut fully and doi ev­ery­thing we need him to do and hopefu on Sun­day he can pick up a Group 1 for us.”

Half and hour after Hartn ell’ s Un­der wood test, Cum­mings will be chas­ing sec­ond Group 1 win when It’s Some - what re­sumes in the M RC Sir Ru­pert Clarke Stakes(1400m ).

“He’s run­ning first-up in a Group 1 hand­i­cap which is go­ing­tob ea tough as­sign­ment for him. He’s top weight with 58 klos and is the top-rated horse in the race ,” said Cum­mings.

“In­hfav our is that he ac­tu­ally has quite a good first-up record and he can bean unas­sum­ing, free gal­lop­ing style of horse.

“He was able to win first up at 1500 ml a st prepa­ra­tion, although it a much eas­ier race.

“He’s won the Group 1 Don­caster, he was suc­cess­ful at weight-for-age in Ho linda le Stakes in Queens­land on the back of some pretty solid ef­forts over 2000 ml a st prepa­ra­tion .”

Hart­nell will ap­pre­ci­ate the dis­tance in the Un­der­wood Stakes at Caulfield.
