The Sportsman Weekend - - News - MATT JONES

HER bloodlines say she’ll strug gle to run the distance, but trainer Brendan McCar thy says Blondie can stamp herself as a VRC Oaks contender in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Fleming ton tomorrow.

Blondie is by Reward For Effor t, who didn’t run at more than 1200m, and her dam, Divine Princess, never won past 1100m and is by General Nediym.

“You couldn’t imagine it,” McCar thy said.

“She will relax. First-up she relaxed too much and when he woke her up she just went ping and I’m hoping she’ll do that as she gets up over more ground.

“The race on Saturday is going to tell us a hell of a lot. At the moment she’s ver y versatile horse who will do any thing you want.”

McCar thy told punters to put a line through Blondie’s last star t sixth to Leather’ n’ lace and a couple of gear changes should make her more comfor table in tomorrow’s race

“I’m still a little bit dumbfounded with her last run. We think she copped a whack over the head and wasn’t happy on inside of other horses.

“I’ve put the blinkers and pacifiers on to give her a bit of confidence around other horses.

“I think they’ll help her a lot. There’s no doubt in the amount of ability she’s got, it ’s just about delivering it in the right way.”

Blondie will jump from gate nine and take a sit just off the leading pack.
