Hyeronimus has faith in Heavens

The Sportsman Weekend - - News - MATT JONES

ADAM Hyeronimus has had long association with Heavens Above despite riding her only three times at the races.

Tomorrow he’ll be out to win Group 2 $300,000 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) for trainer Tim Martin.

Hyeronimus rode Heavens Above in her first ever barrier trial in October, 2014, at Rosehill, but couldn’t get back on her until this year’s Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes.

“I remember riding her in work well before that barrier trial when she was only a baby,” he said.

“I said to Tim that’s she’s pretty good, this horse and he had the same opinion.

“I was going to ride her at her first start Goulburn but she had a temperature and didn’t run and went to the paddock.

“When she came back I wasn’t riding due to injuries so it’s taken me a long time to get back on her.”

She’s had to luckless runs in the Group 1 Myer Classic recent years and was flying late in the race last start when 2.4 lengths eighth to Shoals.

She won the Coolmore in the autumn at Rosehill and Hyeronimus says she can win another Group 1 to end the year.

“It would be good to get a result for Tim. He’s been a supporter of mine so I want to repay him,” he said.

“She went well last start but got too far back and couldn’t get to the outside of the field have a good crack at them.”

“With way the race was won it was going to be a sprint home and it was hard to find runs. I think she’s really looking for 2000m now and this is a good race for her.”

Hyeronimus will also be trying to end the sixyear-old mare’s run of bad luck in Melbourne where she’s yet to win, albeit from just two Myer Classic runs.

“She’s always shown that she’s got ability and

a pretty easy going horse with a good attitude,” he said.

“It’s got to do with the way she races. She gets back. She races well when gets to the outside of them.”

The wide barrier won’t be an issue for her either and she’ll be flying home late down the outside.

“She’ll look after herself early and drop out the back so it’s not a bad barrier she’ll be able to get a crack at them,” Hyeronimus said.

Heavens Above will appreciate the trip in tomorrow’s Group 2 Matriarch Stakes.
