Impending targets G1 Darley Classic

The Sportsman Weekend - - The Trackwork Winners - WARREN HUNTLY

IMPENDING has been kept on the fresh side since finishing second behind In Her Time in the Sydney Stakes last time out and James Cummings has given him the benefit of a jumpout down the Flemington straight since he arrived in Melbourne.

He performed well the jumpout and worked nicely last Tuesday morning to cover 1000m in 1.09.11 and his final 400m 23.87.

Cummings has earmarked tomorrow’s Group 1 Darley Classic as the spring target for the Stradbroke winner and he heads there in terrific shape. IT’S SOMEWHAT, also prepared by Cummings, has derived a good deal of improvement from his two runs this campaign and should be suited stepping up to 2000m in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes.

He has come through his latest outing where he produced a strong closing performance in a solidly run Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley in great order and cruised over 1200m on Tuesday morning.

After covering the journey in 1.26.35 and his last 400m 26.09 he is ready to run well at Flemington.

The Chris Gangemitrained ROCK MAGIC is close to peak fitness following recent racing and heads to Flemington for the Darley Classic.

He was kept up to the mark covering 1000m in 1.10.86 on Tuesday morning and wasn’t extended to run his closing 400m in 26.04.

Early markets have him at longs odds for tomorrow’s event but he has some strong form lines around him and is capable of running better than the prepost odds suggest. BARTHELONA worked

impressively in the clockwise direction on steeple grass on Tuesday morning and the Mike Moroney-trained galloper heads to Rosehill tomorrow to contest the last race over 1300m.

He looked sharp preparing for his trip to Sydney clocking 1.06.09 for his 1000m hit out, dashing home his final 400m in 23.92.

The son of Zoffany is yet to win beyond 1100m but has drawn favourably at Rosehill to give him every opportunity extend his winning distance range out to the longer trip.

DOMESTICATED is ready to resume and with the Hayes Dabernig training partnership giving her a solid grounding for first-up run she was afforded fairly easy time in a barrier trial at Tatura recently.

Following that trial the daughter of Encosta de Lago looked in good order to kick off her next preparation striding over 1000m in 1.10.08 and last 400m 27.86 on Tuesday morning.

Connections have a few options for her first run this campaign and although she will ultimately better suited over more ground

should be hitting the line strongly if she lines up at Cranbourne over 1300m tonight.

Impending will run well in the Darley Classic tomorrow.
