THE EARLY CROW

The Sportsman Weekend - - Sandown Hillside -

THE ANCHOR

There seems every chance Mrs Gardenia (Race 3) will start a

long odds-on favourite. She has everything in her favour - down in class, only 3kg over the limit, drawn perfectly and small field to suit. She does stand out as the safest bet of the day.

THE LAY

Bookies will be prepared to take a risk with Jungle Edge (Race 7), especially if the rain doesn’t come as much as

expected. He is the class runner of the race and in form after a Group 3 win here a fortnight ago but he does drop back to 1000m against handy field of speedsters.

THE STATS SPEAK

Lady Esprit (Race 7) has found conditions to suit. She raced 18 times at 1000m for five wins and seven placings. In fact all of her

wins have been at this trip. Also won two from three course and distance and won twice on soft ground. Will take beating.

AT THE TRIALS

There was a lot to like about the trial effort of Logan River (Race 1). As mentioned in the preview, he did everything right to win in smart time and seemed have a fair bit in

reserve at the finish. Well bred type who will take tossing on debut.

SECTIONAL STAR

Kasi Farasi (Race 2) is likely to attract solid support. Debuted with a strong win at Pakenham after clocking the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m. His closing 200m split was an impressive 11.73s. Was at big odds that day but that won’t be the case tomorrow. SPME01Z01MA - V1
