Staying there

The Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16 is in the historic quarter. My club room on the 16th floor had river views. The hotel is about a 1km walk from the ruins of St Paul’s and the Macau Museum. The Sofitel is more hotel than casino, although it does have three levels of gambling rooms. It also has an amazing Michael Jackson Gallery with videos and memorabilia – including MJ’s famous glove. The rooms are oversized with the famous Sofitel Mybed and Hermes products. The hotel is offering a deal to stay in The Mansion At Sofitel (from $HK4450) for a night that includes buffet breakfast at Mistral Restaurant for two; complimentary mini-bar; complimentary WiFi access and local calls; a bottle of NV Charles De Fere Reserve, Burgundy; Hermes gift pack; $300 dining voucher a night; and 20 per cent off accommodation from Sunday to Thursday. See sofitel.com

The best bar in town is at the MGM Grand – the Lion’s Bar. It has a great band and some of the best people-watching in Macau. More: See www.macautourism.gov.mo/en
