BEE SEASON (2005) GEM, 10.50PM, M, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Saul Naumann (Richard Gere) is a man obsessed with the power of words, in particular the Hebrew language and its interconnectedness with the Jewish faith, and the ability to use words and letters to communicate with God. His distracted wife (Juliette Binoche) is literally putting the pieces of her life back together. Their son (Max Minghella) is searching for religious guidance, while 11-year-old daughter Eliza (Flora Cross) is withdrawn, thoughtful and waiting to bloom. When Eliza displays an uncanny ability for trumping spelling bees, the focus of the family changes. At first it seems her talent will draw the family together, but as each member, particularly Saul, immerses themselves in her quest, the flaws ensnare them. It’s rich, emotional and surprising. .
