Former Queensland entertainment journalist Adam Zwar has turned into a TV producing extraordinaire. His fourth series in recent years is The Agony of Life which airs on ABC1 on Wednesdays at 9pm. ENTERTAINMENT Movie: Withnail & I because it’s a movie that was unintentionally made about me. Book: Falling Towards England by Clive James. TV show: The Good Wife. I’d love to be in that show, holding a clipboard and looking officious. Band or singer: Leonard Cohen. Album: Back To Black by Amy Winehouse. I’m just one of the millions who miss her dreadfully. Karaoke song: Don’t encourage me. But if I had a choice, it’d be Sinatra. Gadget: Apple TV. LIFESTYLE Holiday spot: Cape Town, South Africa. Went there recently and checked out Mandela’s cell, went on safari, hiked up Table Mountain and the first person we saw at the top was Ita Buttrose. Thing to do on the weekend: Work. There’s stuff to be done. Place to go to relax: I don’t relax. Hobby: I’ve tried to find a hobby, but nothing jumped out. You can’t call golf a hobby. It’s an obsession. Sport to follow or play: AFL and the mighty Carlton Blues. Dinner conversation topics: I’ll tell you what I don’t like to talk about – real estate. HOME Room in your house: My office. If a cat is sitting on the couch next to me, I write better. Place to hide from everyone: In plain sight. It’s the best policy. Art piece: Frederick McCubbin’s The Pioneer (pictured). Heartbreaking insight into early Australia. Item you can’t live without: Kettle. I’m a tea fanatic. Luxury product: A Georg Jensen watch my wife gave me. FOOD Meal of all time: Salmon carpaccio by Tony Sassi at Sassi’s Port Douglas. Dish to cook: I make a good spaghetti carbonara. Family recipe: My mum, Delphine, was a genius cook and food writer. I’d be mad to attempt any recipe of hers. Ingredient: Basil makes most things better. Guilty pleasure: I’m at my happiest when an uneaten piece of chocolate cake is sitting before me. Restaurant: Sassi’s in Port Douglas. Sassi cooks, sings, barracks for Carlton. I love that man. Cafe: Zappa in Bank St, South Melbourne. Portraits of Frank Zappa stare down on you as you tuck into some really good pasta cooked by the owner’s mum. STYLE Style icon: Sinatra. He said, ‘‘A halfinch of a man’s shirt cuffs should protrude from his jacket sleeve, trousers should fall slightly above the shoe, black is the only appropriate colour to wear after dark, vests are better than cummerbunds, and you shouldn’t forget to shine your shoes.’’ Fashion designer: Jack London suits suit me. Piece of clothing: My Carlton scarf. It’s not blatant at all. Only the true believers can pick it. Shop: The internet. Shop assistants scare me. Artist: Callum Morton. Callum reworks and recreates modernist architecture and invests it with strong narratives. But best of all, his work is funny and he’s funny in real life too.
