MEET THE YOUNG AMERICANS
Monday, 8.35pm, ABC2
It’s called ‘‘doing shock’’ – young people convicted in the US are given the option of attending a prison boot camp in return for a lesser sentence. In boot camp their lives are regimented and timed to the extent that they get three minutes for showers and eight minutes to eat breakfast and have to ask permission to talk, walk or even go to the toilet.
The idea is they are ‘‘shocked’’ into going straight and statistics show most don’t re-offend for three years. The documentary isn’t particularly great although the subject matter is interesting.
