Maybe it’s the all-star cast that leaves you expecting more, but this movie is a bit of a disappointment. Starring Hugh Laurie, Oliver Platt, Allison Janney, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, it follows two families who are best friends and neighbours in suburban New Jersey. Their lives are distinctly normal and rather boring until one Thanksgiving when prodigal daughter Nina (Meester) arrives home after a five-year absence and starts an affair with her married, old-enough-to-be-her-father neighbour, David (Laurie). The romance destroys the relationships of all involved and forces everyone to reassess their lives. There are a few funny moments, but they mostly stem from pure awkwardness, while the rest of the flick is just strange. ★✩ Extras: None.
