BLUE CRUSH (2002) 7TWO, 6.30PM, PG, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

The scariest thing about your fears is not so much overcoming them, but recognising them then confronting them. It’s the central theme in this vibrant and entertaining surfer “chick flick” that, despite all the froth, is not a bad night in. Set in Hawaii, it’s the classic “poor girl makes good” scenario revolving around a local (Kate Bosworth) who has the talent to be the world’s best surfer but is hamstrung by inner demons. While juggling her troubled life around training for the big contest, she falls for a visiting pro football player (Matthew Davis). The rich boypoor girl love story is all rather predictable, so, thank heavens for the surf scenes, which are excellent, giving us a fresh angle on the pounding those big Hawaiian rollers can dish out. ★★★
